Product Description
American Beech: American Beech varies from light cream with a red tinge to mid-tone reddish brown. When lightly steamed this hardwood produces a pale pink colour. Quarter sawn surfaces display a silvery fleck pattern.
Characteristics: American Beech wood is a very durable, heavy, strong and dense hardwood. This wood works well with hand and machine tools. Beech has superior machining characteristics, it is ranked as high as American Cherry in shaping, planing, boring, turning, and mortising. Due to its high density, pre-drilling is required for nails and wood screws. It has high resistance to shock and is highly suitable for steam bending. It also accepts stains, glues, finishes, glazes, and polishes exceptional well. A preservative treatment is required to prevent damage from weather conditions and insects if used outdoors.
Common Uses: Common uses for American Beech are doors, panelling, chairs, carvings, veneer, cabinets, bed frames, turned objects, furniture, work benches, tables, stairs and flooring. This hardwood is also used for joinery, interior finishing, handles, boatbuilding, plywood, toys, and musical instruments (piano pin blocks). It is particularly suitable for food containers as well because there is no odour or taste.
